Arun Choral Society have chosen the Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity as their charity of the year for 2025/2026. For their final concert, they will perform Mendelssohn’s magnificent oratorio ‘Elijah’ under the direction of Dr Joe Paxton in the stunning surroundings of Arundel Cathedral on Sunday 17th May at 7pm.

Elijah is one of the greatest oratorios ever written, telling the dramatic story of the Old Testament prophet through powerful choruses, moving arias, and thrilling dramatic moments. From the opening proclamation of drought to the spectacular contest on Mount Carmel, this is music of extraordinary emotional range and power.

The part of Elijah will be sung by Owain Gwynfryn. Owain last performed with the society in October 2024 in Bach’s Mass in B Minor. He comes to Arundel fresh from the UK stage premiere of Offenbach’s Die Rheinnixen and his acclaimed turn as Alidoro in La Cenerentola. Owain will now take on the formidable figure of the prophet Elijah, bringing his vocal presence to one of the most demanding roles in the baritone repertoire.

Tickets are now on sale priced £16 (£8 for under 18s). All money raised will go towards the support of Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity Music Therapy sessions, helping children with Cerebral Palsy unlock their full potential using music- a wonderful demonstration of how music can transform lives.
