Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity is celebrating the success of its recent Golf Day, which raised just under £10,000 to support young local children with cerebral palsy and other motor learning impairments.
Held at Mannings Heath Golf Club, the event brought together local businesses, supporters and community groups for a fantastic day of golf, fundraising and networking. The money raised will help the charity move closer to its 25th anniversary goal of supporting an additional 25 children and families across the Southeast.
Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity provides specialist early intervention services for children under five with cerebral palsy and other motor learning impairments. Its support includes physiotherapy, conductive education, speech and language therapy, music therapy, swim therapy and family outreach services. All of these are provided free of charge to families. However, as the charity receives no statutory funding, it relies on donations, fundraising events, corporate partnerships and community support to continue its vital work.
The Golf Day was kindly sponsored by Ryan Canter Club, whose ongoing support played an important role in making the event possible. The charity was also delighted to welcome a fantastic range of local businesses, including Homewood Rail, Bespoke Law Services, The Jonathan Lea Network, Halcyon Wellness, Ascot Care, RPD and many others.
Players enjoyed a full day on the course in glorious sunshine, alongside a variety of fundraising activities including a raffle, silent auction and on-course competitions. The event received wonderful feedback from attendees, many of whom praised the smooth organisation, warm atmosphere and stunning setting at Mannings Heath Golf Club.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have raised just under £10,000 from our Golf Day. It was such a brilliant day, and we are so grateful to everyone who joined us, sponsored the event, donated prizes or supported us in any way. As we celebrate our 25th anniversary year, we are aiming to reach 25 more children and families who urgently need access to specialist early intervention. Every pound raised through events like this helps us continue providing life-changing support, free of charge, to families. We would like to say a huge thank you to Keith and the whole team at Ryan Canter Club for sponsoring the event, and to all the players and businesses who helped make the day such a success.” – Sophie Barriball, Community & Events Fundraiser
A wide range of local businesses and supporters also generously donated raffle prizes and auction items, helping to raise vital funds on the day. Their generosity played an important part in the success of the event and reflects the strength of community support behind the charity’s work.
The funds raised will help Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity continue supporting children to develop vital skills, build confidence and work towards milestones that can transform their everyday lives. For many of the children supported by the charity, progress can mean taking a first step, sitting independently, improving communication, building strength and mobility, or gaining the confidence to participate more fully in family and community life.
As demand for the charity’s services continues to grow, fundraising events like the Golf Day play a crucial role in ensuring more children and families can access the specialist support they need.
