We are delighted to welcome Saliah Malik to our team who will be offering Speech and Language Therapy sessions to our families at our Centre in Cuckfield. Saliah held the first of two training sessions over the Summer of 2019 where the service team learnt about Augmentative and Alternative Communication covering areas such as MAKATON, Picture Exchange Systems, Eye-pointing and Eye-gaze. All of this learning will be used across our entire offering that we provide to our families.
Saliah will also be running Speech and Language Therapy information and advice sessions looking at eating and drinking difficulties the children may have and recommendations on how to support them. Parents will be given the opportunity to book one-to-one information sessions with Saliah.
Our aim is for staff and parents to be able to understand each child's needs in terms of feeding and better support them to communicate their thoughts, feelings and needs in a way that we are able to understand.
Saliah said: "Its been an absolute pleasure getting to know you all. Thank you for being so incredibly welcoming, you have really made me feel part of the team. I really enjoy coming to Dame Vera Lynn Children's Charity and you dedication and support towards the children and families is incredible."
We would like to thank the Barbara Ward Children's Foundation for providing the funding for our Speech and Language Therapist which will enable our Centre in Cuckfield to work towards becoming a total communication centre.
