Paralympian Abbie Hunnisett

"Abbie was diagnosed with cerebral palsy after being starved of oxygen for about 30 minutes at birth.  We made contact with Dame Vera Lynn Children's Charity and Abbie attended from the age of 9 months until she was 3 and a half years old.

"The Charity gave us a focus on how we could best support Abbie and her mental and physical development.  They showed us how to hold Abbie an gave us the determination required to provide her with the best possible start.  Those early sessions gave both Abbie and ourselves the drive to work hard and do the best we could."  Mark Hunnisett, Father.

"Abbie is now in her 20's and represented GB in the Paralympic Games in Rio in 2016 taking part in the Club Throw event.  Abbie said:

"Dame Vera Lynn Children's Charity was a great support to me when I was growing up.  Without this help, I don't think I would have grown strong and be able to work as hard as I do." Abbie Hunnisett - Paralympian and Ambassador of Dame Vera Lynn Children's Charity.
