In line with the Government Coronavirus guidance to avoid non-essential contact, we have taken the decision to suspend our face-to-face service for all of our families as of 17th March. We haven't gone away though. Our staff are now working from home, trying to find new ways that we can provide support, albeit virtually, to our families so that their children don't miss out on continuing to build their muscle control, their posture, their movement and their ability to communicate and relate to the world around them, however diminished that world is right now.
We're working on telephone and online surgeries, virtual sessions, home play ideas, exercise sheets – not to mention continuing to provide guidance and input into our children's EHCP process, behavioural and sleep issues. And that is just for a start!
This is absolutely an unprecedented time for everyone throughout the world, and causing many of us great concern about what the future will bring and how we will be able to sustain our families and our livelihoods. I want to ensure throughout this crisis period, that our children do not lose out on developing vital skills that will enable them to have a greater independence. And I want to ensure once this crisis period comes to an end, that we are able to once again open our doors to families. As such, we have today launched our Keep Smiling Through Appeal, in honour of our founder and President, Dame Vera Lynn, who provided such positivity and spirit to the soldiers and their families during World War II. Over the past 19 years, this Charity has helped over 600 families give their very young children with cerebral palsy and other motor impairment the best possible start to life. We have blazed a trail in delivering early intervention, and we have no intention of giving up now! Help us with your support, your ideas and your donations. Rather than focusing on all the things that we cannot do now, let's show the world what we can do!
I would like to thank our families for their understanding, my staff for their incredible resilience, ingenuity and compassion, and you, for your support for this Charity. With your help, we will look forward to opening up the doors again in the not too distant future.
In the meantime, please do everything you can to help you and your loved ones stay safe.
