We have a brand new challenge for our 2019 Walk taking place on Saturday 14th September. This year's walk is a circular route starting and finishing at Bedes School in Eastbourne.
Walkers on both routes will journey through some of the most beautiful scenery and iconic landmarks to be found across the South Downs including Beachy Head, Birling Gap, The Seven Sisters and Cuckmere Valley.
There will be two distances to choose from - 35km or 15km. Full details of the route and elevation can be downloaded below.
Registration fee £40 Adult and £11 Child. Minimum sponsorship £100. REGISTER HERE.
Refreshments and snacks along the route. This is a great opportunity for individuals, families and friends to undertake a challenge together and make a difference, and also a fantastic team-building event for companies to help a very worthy cause.
Richard Taylor-Johnson got a team together to take part in our walk last year. His son Joshua attends sessions at our Centre in Cuckfield and he explains why he took on the challenge.
"All throughout the walk I kept reminding myself about the Charity, Josh and all the other kids who probably won't be able to walk anywhere un-aided. I figured 7 hours out of my day walking is nothing in comparison to the daily efforts the children put in to improving their mobility. I also thought about my wife Louise and all the other parents. The tiredness and challenges I faced during the walk are just a snippet of the constant daily determination and commitment Louise and all the parents/carers relentlessly show. The aches and pains that came and went for me in my legs, back etc, were just a flavour of the chronic aches and pains felt by Louise and everyone caring for children with cerebral palsy.
"Dame Vera Lynn Children's Charity have provided amazing support to our son Joshua, helping him towards taking his first steps in spite of his quad cerebral palsy, global development delay, severe epilepsy and cortical visual impairment. As Joshua has got older, gained strength and gained a wickedly awesome personality, our hopes and dreams for the future have very much returned!"
35km on average is around 42,000 steps, that's more steps than some children with cerebral palsy will walk in their lifetime.
We have partnered up once again with Pied-A-Terre Advenutures to organise the event. To take part in the walk please REGISTER HERE.
PLEASE NOTE THE ROUTE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE. THE DISTANCES AND TIMINGS ARE A GUIDE.
